Anson's Random Dumps #3

Finally, a day in which I start writing an entry at the end of the day, a.k.a. on schedule. Is this the sign of a good habit? Or is it the start of a notorious journey of trying to keep a habit? I’d never know.

Keeping a habit is hard – you’ll have to do a single thing continuously for each and every day. Until it becomes engraved into your brain, then your life would become easier. Still – it’s ridiculously hard not to miss a day, and it’s hard to get back on track once you do that.

How do you keep a good habit? Do you use willpower to power through, and hope that the thing gets engraved into your brain, when it becomes second nature? Or do you just attempt to do that thing every day, until you suddenly forget it one day, and never again do you pick it back up?

I’ve certainly done the latter for a disgusting lot of times. But I certainly wonder – what’s in it that makes picking up a habit so hard, but giving one up so easy? Until you really keep a habit for long enough that you create some sort of “bond” with it, by then you’d probably “hang on” to a habit even if you try to forego it, it’s very easy to just put a habit down, and never again. Just like disposing rubbish.

I am trying to have good habits – just like any well-behaved and self-disciplined person does. So far I’m on the right track, but I don’t know when these habits will fall apart again.

Today (and yesterday as I’m writing this sentence) was rather an uneventful day, so that’s really all I can write for today.
